AT Day Trip
AT Day Trip, originally uploaded by Appalachian Encounters.
We actually had a break in the weather to get out a couple weekends ago. We headed up to Carver’s Gap, TN for a day trip on the AT to Grassy Bald. What a beautiful day it was.
Full Moon at ThunderHill Overlook
Full Moon at ThunderHill Overlook, originally uploaded by Appalachian Encounters.
While the big moon rise was heavily blocked by clouds, the wind finally blew enough of them away to at least give some dramatic light. From Thunderhill Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway, city lights in the distance, and cars traveling on the Parkway made for a complete scene. It was really a beautiful night.

Another view whilst on the Mountains to Sea Trail between Table Rock mtn and Shortoff mtn. The stacked rocks and vegetation make this a dramatic place to visit, let alone the amazing views.

While hiking on the Mountain to Sea Trail, here’s a view north, looking up Linville Gorge; Roan mtn in the distance.
Moses Cone with Friends

We’ve had a few beautiful Sundays in a row around Boone, which is giving everyone Spring fever and getting us all out. We hiked two Sundays ago on the Moses Cone trails up and back to the fire tower.
The Valley Below

From the Blue Ridge Parkway looking through the remaining vibrant colors you can see the valley below is still alive with change.
Fields of Fall

Looking north from a field in North Cove NC up to the tip top of Haw’s Bill mountain in Linville Gorge. It was a beautiful fall morning south of the high country headed to Waynesville and these hay rolls just beckoned to me to stop and photograph.

Tuolumne Meadows absolutely lived up to my expectations. Big sweeping lush meadows meeting the mountain walls and landscape. Glorious peaks topped in snow.
Alpen Glow on Half Dome
Yosemite NP (15), originally uploaded by Appalachian Encounters.
From Glacier Point this fantastic light on Half Dome is possible. This certainly wasn’t the most dramatic evening for the alpen glow, but beautiful nonetheless.
Ridge Road Sunset
Sunsets_Boone2010(5), originally uploaded by Appalachian Encounters.
There’s a fantastic road in Boone that gives spectacular views both east and west. It’s full of beautiful rolling green pastures, fence-lines, livestock, trees, and of course, mountainous views.

Golden Gate Thru The Lupine

The last of the sightseeing while in San Fran was a walk on the Golden Gate. The views from here are fantastic and the early light on the bridge is a must see.
Muir Beach Sunset
Muir Beach Sunset, originally uploaded by boonejag75.
After a long hike in Muir Woods, the timing was perfect and the location was close…sunset at Muir Beach; just a little ways down the road from the National Monument parking areas. I, of course, followed this up with a pint and the english Pelican Inn.
A Little Light
This photo is from several weeks ago, but as the weather has been so gloomy and raw, and now with all the leaves gone…inspiration is lacking. Maybe it will snow soon
Sunlit Clouds

The cloud ceiling in this evening was amazing, causing the sunset light to dance and move all over the sky.
